We are delighted to welcome Viktor Olasz as the newest addition to our M&A team in Europe. Viktor has joined us as an M&A Analyst, and will be a key member of the team as we look to expand our presence in the region.
To find out a bit more about Viktor and his background, we recently sat down for a Q&A with him.
Tell us a bit about yourself and your background
I was born and raised in the small, but great city of Szeged, Hungary. I obtained a BA in Business Administration and Management at the Corvinus University of Budapest. As I enjoyed my exchange semester in Edinburgh and gave in to my analytical side which drove me to finance, I attended MSc in Finance at the University of Edinburgh. To deepen my knowledge in the field, I passed the CFA Level I and II exams.
After moving back to Hungary, I joined a leading Hungarian M&A boutique, Concorde MB Partners where I was able to gain experience in the world of transactions and learn from great mentors.
What made you choose Vesta as the next step in your career?
Previously working on transactions as an advisor, I wanted to have a deeper insight into the whole process – to explore the answer to the questions of why to acquire a company, and how to successfully take it over and help it to grow in the long term. Vesta provided a great opportunity to discover this world.
I have also met several colleagues of the Vesta team beforehand in a transaction project, and really liked the culture and vibe. Everyone was easy-going and nice while also demonstrating their extensive knowledge, assuring me that I would be able to learn a lot while fitting into the team.
What are your top three books/podcasts?
Recently I haven’t been reading as much as I want to, but I used to read fantasy books. My absolute favourite is the Harry Potter series, followed by the books of J.R.R. Tolkien. If I had to name a third, it would probably be the Song of Ice and Fire series.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I like to spend time with my family, girlfriend and friends in the forms of nights out, garden parties, playing board games and trips around the world. As a fan of history and food, I mostly enjoy visiting the historical landmarks and trying the local cuisine.
I also love playing basketball and the piano as a hobby.
Who inspires you?
I am lucky to have excellent role models in my family to look up to, who are not only successful in their professions but also great human beings.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
Only playing the piano on an intermediate level as a hobby, if I could, I would love to elevate it to a much higher level and be able to play anything by ear.
What is your favourite quote?
“All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.” – Gandalf, J.R.R. Tolkien
