To support our growth in Latin America, we are delighted to welcome Juan Guimaraens to the team, who joins us a Finance Integration Leader. In this article, we caught up with Juan to find out a bit more about him and why he chose Vesta as the next step in his career.

Tell us a bit about yourself and your background

I was born and raised in Montevideo, Uruguay, and still live here to this day. At university, I obtained a degree in Public Accounting, which enabled me to kickstart my career in finance. This began with a role as an Auditor for nine years, where I developed my knowledge of accounting regulations, before moving onto a new opportunity as a Financial Leader for a group of software companies. Together, these experiences have provided me with a broad understanding of the finance field and have given me the chance to grow my skills in some specific areas of interest.

Since 2017, I have been working as a Professor, teaching accounting subjects at both undergraduate and graduate level. I love being able to share my knowledge and passion for the field with aspiring students.

Additionally, I am currently in the final stages of completing a Master’s Degree in Accounting and Finance. This advanced programme has further enhanced my expertise in the field, enabling me to stay up to date with the latest industry practices and develop a deeper understanding of complex financial concepts. I’m excited to be able to leverage this new-found knowledge soon!

What made you choose Vesta as the next step in your career?

I chose Vesta as the next step in my career as the company’s clear vision and reputation for excellence and innovation aligned perfectly with my professional goals and aspirations.

Joining Vesta presents a remarkable opportunity for growth and development in a dynamic and challenging environment. I am grateful for the chance to contribute to the company’s ongoing success and be part of a team that constantly pushes boundaries. It’s an exciting new journey and one I’m looking forward to helping drive forward.

What are your top three books/podcasts?

Recently, I’ve been primarily focused on academic reading and listening to podcasts that cover various interview topics. However, a notable book I read recently is “No Rules Rules” by Reed Hastings and Erin Meyer. The book explores the innovative leadership and corporate culture at Netflix, emphasising the culture of freedom and responsibility. It highlights the significance of trust, transparency and learning from mistakes, making it an inspiring read for those interested in transforming organisational culture in the digital age.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love planning trips all over the world – especially if it involves scuba diving! I also enjoy going for long walks and catching up on my favourite TV shows and movies.

Who inspires you?

I find inspiration from many people, and believe it’s crucial to remain open when getting to know others. You never know what you may learn from a colleague, friend or even a random stranger at a café. However, if I had to name someone, I would say my parents; they have always motivated me and served as a great example.

If you could learn to do absolutely anything, what would it be?

I would love to be able to play the guitar. It has been a lifelong interest of mine that I have always wanted to pursue, but I haven’t been able to make it happen just yet.
